Bombay High Court sends Chanda Kochhar’s suit over ICICI Bank dues to civil division

Image
The Bombay High Court on Tuesday allowed a plea filed by ICICI Bank and directed its former CEO Chanda Kochhar to approach the appropriate judicial forum of the HC by holding that the nature of the suit filed by her in connection with her entitlements and benefits was not a commercial dispute. Chanda Kochha In its plea, ICICI Bank argued that the suit should be treated as civil suit as it was a matter between an employee and an employer. The HC directed its registry to transfer the said suit from the court’s commercial division which is governed by the Commercial Courts Act, 2015 to its regular civil division which is governed by the Civil Procedure Code (CPC). The high court, which is a charter court, has original jurisdiction (the court can be approached through suits as court of first instance) based on the territory and the value involved. After the 2015 Act was implemented, a commercial division was added at the HC, which governs the suits filed under the said law. Read M

Fast forward 70-plus years, and the Met Gala is something totally different, one of the most photographed events in the world for its head-spinning red carpet — though the famous carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art aren’t always red. We’re talking  Rihanna   as a bejeweled pope.  Zendaya   as Cinderella with a light-up gown.  Katy Perry  as a chandelier morphing into a hamburger. Also: Beyoncé in her “naked dress.”  Kim Kardashian  in a face-covering bodysuit. Billy Porter as an Egyptian sun god, carried on a litter by six shirtless men. And Lady Gaga’s 16-minute striptease.

IPO funds to make Devyani International debt free: Ravi Kant Jaipuria

Image
The key brands clearly are KFC, Pizza Hut, Costa Coffee and our home grown brand which is Vaango and Food Street. A slew of our own brands are doing extremely well as well as the top international brands which we are carrying. There is a huge headroom for us to grow. We are in the fast food market and there is no reason why the growth should not come for these brands. The fund that has been raised via IPO is going to be used for repayment or rather prepayment of all or certain borrowings as well as general corporate purposes. Does this include your expansion plans as well? The funds are mainly going to be used for repaying debt. The company will practically become debt free after this and the company will generate enough cash for the growth it needs. So, the company will not need to further dilute or borrow for expansion plans. Rajat Sharma on ITC & Bajaj Finance and why he won’t invest in LIC IPO

Image
I would rather wait for LIC to get listed and whatever price it gets listed on, I will decide whether to buy LIC or not at that time,” says Rajat Sharma, Founder & CEO, Sana Securities. Are you scouting for opportunities within autos? Hero MotoCorp NSE 1.34 % is in my portfolio. I have recommended this stock many times and the reason is simple; whether you talk of EVs or the shift that these companies will make, I expect two two-wheeler companies – Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp – more than the four- wheeler auto space to do well. These are the companies which have shifted their manufacturing first to cater to all the requirements of the EV. Two things will happen here. In a country like India, the demand for two-wheelers is not going to go down ever. It is the burgeoning middle class in this country and the two-wheeler demand will keep growing and these are the companies which will make a shift to complete production for EVs. So whether these stocks move up or down right n

Bollywood is under serious threat from Bharatiya cinema — and it’s good news

Image
The democratisation of cinematic space is one of the most refreshing changes in recent times. The cinematic space monopolisation of Bollywood, predominantly in the Hindi heartland, has been shattered for the good. The mundane world of Bollywood is finally seeing the end of the day. The overdose of appeasement, movie remakes, body shaming, flimsy storytelling, abysmal direction, lack of creativity and superficial stardom has finally been breached. Come 2022, the mediocrity of Bollywood stands totally exposed in front of the brilliance of Bharatiya cinema. The movie industry called Bollywood which has been infested with nepotism and mediocre talent is suddenly facing an existential crisis because of the growth of Bharatiya cinemas. The three biggest blockbusters of the year are all from Bharatiya cinemas The success of  Pushpa: The Rise ,  RRR  and  KGF2  in 2022 has brought about a paradigm shift in the movie industry of Bharat. Bollywood, which used to monopolise the cinemati

Tata Steel, ArcelorMittal-Nippon Steel India unlikely to bid for NMDC unit

Image
Tata Steel  and ArcelorMittal-Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) may not bid for NMDC’s privatisation-bound, under-construction 3 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) steel unit at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh. This leaves Sajjan Jindal’s JSW Steel, Naveen Jindal’s Jindal Steel and Power and new entrants into the steel sector like Vedanta and Adani Group, in the fray. The Centre had in October 2020 approved demerger of the unit from the parent NMDC and strategic disinvestment of the demerged entity by selling its entire stake in it to a strategic player. NMDC is likely to complete the demerger process by August-September, coinciding with the commissioning of the unit. Following this, bids for the demerged entity would be called for. NMDC may end up spending around Rs 22,000 crore, higher by Rs 6,500 crore than originally estimated, for the plant mainly due to seven years of time overrun Read More :  https://www.financialexpress.com/industry/tata-steel-arcelormittal-nippon-steel-india-unlikely
